Finding Actor Inspiration
It’s been one of those weeks…I hurt my back recently helping our dog stand up. (She has arthritis.) So I’ve been down physically, which makes it harder to find the motivation to pursue my acting career. Last night I went on a minor rant, proclaiming that we should just sell the house and move to a smaller city. Why am I fighting for an acting career, a nearly impossible dream?
LIfe is full of self-examination!
Sometimes I become frustrated when I don’t get the results that I want. But the truth is, I have to stay focused on the process, and learn to love the daily and weekly tasks that will get me where I want to go. I know it will get easier.
Thankfully, today I found a genuinely heartfelt inspiration on Twitter from an actor whom you’ll recognize, but you may not know his name: Donal Logue. I’ve been a fan of his for awhile. Donal studied with well-known teacher Risa Bramon Garcia, a longtime director, casting director and teacher in Los Angeles. Here’s what Donal said about Risa’s teaching, and the subsequent shift in his mindset:
“Risa was able to make me, an agent-less, essentially credit-less actor at the time, step into a heavy-duty environment, stacked with multiple Academy Award winners and quiet the doubts that plagued me (probably all actors) by teaching me to focus on two powerful truths: one, that it is only about the work (and not the outside stuff) and two (and maybe more importantly) she taught me to ask- Why not me? ” -Donal Logue. TERRIERS
Well, I was moved to tears when I asked myself, why not me? And in that moment I knew, beyond all doubt, that acting is my passion and my dream and I will continue to fight until I’m living it every day. Amen.
