Countdown To Colonoscopy – Entry Three

TFT-GlassesEven though I had to wait two months for my colonoscopy consult, I thankfully managed to enjoy my summer and get lots of proactive things done on my acting career: new head shots, which I posted on all the casting sites + my website, helped my husband create his new website, and enjoyed putting together my first Demo Reel.

Once August rolled around though, the anxiety started rising. On the day of my appointment, my heart was pounding and I wanted to bolt, but I was determined to stick to my goal. Anxiety aside, it went fairly smoothly, and I was relieved to have it over.

The only down side was learning that  I would have to see yet another doctor for a “procedure clearance” appointment. What?? Really?? Can’t I just quietly show up and not have to go through all this extra stuff? By extra stuff, I mean an EKG, a Chest X-Ray, get my blood drawn, and pee in a cup. This is like another nightmare. I think I dread this more than the procedure itself.

After debating for a week about which doctor to call, I reluctantly called up a cardiologist I’d seen five years before, because I have a weird EKG. It’s fine, just weird. What can I say? Some people are just weird, and I’m one of them. As you can imagine, I’m nervous as hell that my EKG will no longer be merely weird, and that somehow I won’t be cleared for my procedure. Further, my anxiety causes my blood pressure and pulse to elevate, which is so debilitating, and doctors don’t like those kinds of readings. I may need to be drugged just for this appointment.

KeepCalmWith that in mind, I’ve decided to try an experiment to calm my nerves. We got a free sample of a mood-enhancing supplement, so I take two with some yogurt. Okay, I definitely feel more relaxed. Maybe this will work until I can get a beta blocker – or a fifth of vodka. Fingers crossed!
