Hello and thanks for taking a read! I’m an actor and I love it. I want to share my acting journey on this blog, because I think human nature is fascinating, and acting is such a beautiful expression of human nature. My journey has helped me find myself and choose to appreciate my past, present and future.
A fascinating aspect of my journey is that I’ve gotten off course many times, but have been able to find my way back every time with mindset training. I’ve also learned that actors are artists, and artists need to develop their whole creative expression, including writing. So this week I made a renewed commitment to my writing, and here I am fulfilling on my goal to write a blog. Bam!
One way I’ve found to stay on course is through meditation. My husband and I recently completed the latest Deepak & Oprah 21 Day Meditation. This one was “Manifesting Your Best Life: Energy Of Attraction”. During those three weeks I got more deeply in touch with my true self, and saw the possibility of embracing my true desires. As I said, one of those desires is writing, something I’ve always wanted to do but have always doubted I could.
Happy to report I’ve finished writing Episode 8 of a web series I started in April. Back then I was given a challenge by DaJuan Johnson, an actor and career coach, who owns Think Bigger Coaching. I was feeling frustrated by the guilt of not writing, and my negativity about it was making me apathetic. Why bother, you know? DaJuan thought I should just try writing for 20 minutes a day for two weeks. If after that I still didn’t want to write, then I could just stop and forget about it. That seemed like a good test, so I took his challenge.
It was difficult because I’m a perfectionist and a big-time procrastinator – a lovely combination, right? But I knew deep down it was just a bad habit, to which I was giving all my power. I put a timer on so I didn’t have to watch the clock at all. I opened my computer and just started writing without thinking about it too much. It wasn’t perfect, but I just kept writing. Two weeks came and went and it was feeling pretty natural, and by the end of May I’d written four episodes. I felt like a different person. What? That’s right – you really can achieve your goals if you’re willing to change your mindset!
